Nickel closed Thursday's trading
session at $9.12/lb ($20,115/tonne). Indicators at 5:55 am CST today show
nickel trading
unchanged. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouse rose
on Thursday and started today just over the 83,600 tonne level.
Shanghai nickel edged higher to 151,650 y/t overnight. Nickel is quiet
this morning as a weaker US Dollar competes with weaker Chinese
manufacturing numbers and all eyes are on US inflation numbers
today. It's
the last working day of the second month of the second quarter of 2024

Euro. Bulls successfully kept the market above the $20,000 tonne level
at closing yesterday, and entering a three day weekend for most
Americans, the market could try to make up some lost ground - or
not. The

bounced back after it fell below the $20,000 tonne level. At least for
now, that appears to be the level traders will do battle over. US

Nickel closed Tuesday's trading
session at $9.61/lb ($21,180/tonne). Indicators at 5:45 am CST today show
nickel trading around $.17/lb
lower. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouses rose
sharply on Tuesday and ended that session just under the 84,100 tonne
level. Shanghai nickel slipped to 157,410 y/t overnight. Nickel is
trading back under the $21,000 tonne level this morning, as some of the
speculators take their profits to the sidelines. It's too early to tell
if this run is over, but even with a large gain in LME stockpile
numbers, the funds appear to be convinced base metals, nickel included,
are a place to make some money these days. And until things in New
Caledonia quiet down, they are probably right. Stay safe out there and

Nickel closed Monday's trading

($21,610/tonne), although the trend was moving sharply lower as the market closed. Indicators

got as high as just over the $21,700 tonne level in yesterday's
trading, and fell over $500/tonne in after hours trading. It was a
volatile day as skepticism and speculation butt heads. Until conditions
stabilize in New Caledonia, stability in the nickel market is doubtful.

Daily Nickel/Stainless Steel Briefing
Nickel closed Thursday's trading
session at $9.10/lb ($20,065/tonne). Indicators at 6:00 am CST today show
nickel trading around $.47/lb
higher. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouses rose on
Thursday and began today just over the 81,800 tonne level. Shanghai
nickel followed the LME higher to 153,460 y/t overnight. The
Euro actually lost a little ground yesterday against the U.S. Dollar,
but the trading of nickel did not reflect this. It closed over the
$20,000/tonne level for the first time since September 2023. And that
was yesterday. This morning it is trading over the $21,000 tonne level.
Reuters is crediting the strife in New Caledonia as the reason, but
that would mean the market is trading as if the nickel market was in
balance and any potential loss from Eramet would send it into a deficit
situation. We don't see that. There are three large mining operations
on New Caledonia and two of the three have been shut down for months.
Eramet remains in operation but has reduced production for some time as
well. Eramet is vulnerable during any island strife but a loss in its
production is not the break even point that traders seem to be hoping
for. Stay safe out there and enjoy your weekend!

Daily Nickel/Stainless Steel Briefing
Nickel closed Tuesday's trading
session at $8.65/lb ($19,070/tonne). Indicators at 5:55 am CST today show
nickel trading around $.12/lb
higher. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouses rose on
Tuesday and started today's session just shy of the 81,000 tonne level.
Shanghai nickel ticked lower to 144,380 y/t overnight. Nickel bounced
this morning on a weaker U.S. Dollar and only recently calmed down.
It's spring and time for riots in New Caledonia again, although they
aren't usually this deadly. New Caledonia is voting on independence
again this year and a recent change in the constitution to allow French
citizens who have lived on the island for ten years to vote, is not
being taken kindly by some in the pro-Independence movement. For an
island paradise, we sure have covered a lot of riots here over the
years. As for nickel shipments, two of the large mines there were on
care and maintenance anyway, so Eramet was the only one really
producing. Considering they are are back by the French government, they
know they have a huge target on their back, so they are being
especially cautious during the riots. The term ferrochrome is about to
become popular - outside of the mining world. See article under Other
News. Copper wire thefts are on the rise again, and Tesla is being sued
by the government for pollution in California. After firing every
member of one of the most profitable divisions at Tesla last week, and

Daily Nickel/Stainless Steel Briefing
Nickel closed Thursday's trading
session at $8.63/lb ($19,025/tonne). Indicators at 5:35 am CST today show
nickel trading
unchanged. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouses rose
on Thursday and started today reading just shy of the 80,300 tonne
level. Shanghai nickel rose to 144,760 y/t overnight. LME nickel got a
bump yesterday, thanks in part to a jump in the Euro. The Euro is quiet
this morning, as is nickel. It's
another week in the history books, and volatile nickel went no where
the hard way. $19,000 remains the level the market appears to be
comfortable with, if a market can be described as being comfortable.
There is talk again about creating a nickel pricing index, to remove
some of the volatility of the LME. This is something that comes up
about as often as the market makes a serious pricing change but no one
has yet come up with a plan that replaces the free market system; that
remains fair to all parties concerned. We aren't holding our breath.
It's another week in the history books. Mistakes were made, failures
were to be had, and some of us were lucky enough to have a success or
two. Learn from the ups and downs, what worked and what didn't, but
never let the failures define you. Stay safe out there and have a
relaxing weekend!

Nickel closed Wednesday's trading
session at $8.59/lb ($18,930/tonne). Indicators at 5:45 am CST today show
nickel trading around $.07/lb
lower. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouses rose on
Wednesday and started today's session just over the 80,000 tonne level.
Shanghai nickel rose to 141,770 y/t overnight. Nickel closed below the
$19,000 tonne level last night, and is trading below this morning. This
means little long term, except the fact the $19,000 tonne level appears
to be psychologically important to traders. We were trading under the
$18,000 tonne level just a few weeks ago, but the Russian sanction
announcement bumped the price higher than where we see trading now.
Will the bump hold or will the surplus conditions continue to drag
prices lower. Stay tuned. Stay safe and have a great Thursday!

Nickel closed Tuesday's trading
session at $8.75/lb ($19,280/tonne). Indicators at 5:45 am CST today show
nickel trading around $.23/lb
lower. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME licensed warehouses fell
slightly on Tuesday and started today's session just under the 79,900
tonne level for a second day. Shanghai nickel fell to 141,190 y/t
overnight, and this has apparently signaled LME traders. LME nickel is
down sharply this morning, once again witnessing all of the months
gains evaporate in a single day blow. The $19,000 tonne level has held
a psychological effect on traders for some time, keeping the bulls and
bears in check. It is possible nickel could be benefiting by copper's
near record high bullish run, which is seeing a bearish run by profit
takers today. Not a lot of news so far this week. Stay safe out there

and back to 144,170 y/t overnight. London
nickel traders ended the week before their three day weekend in a
bullish mood, taking nickel well north of the $19,000 tonne level.
Everyone has their poker face on this morning, waiting for the other

negative technical signal, if you believe in that sort of thing. Here
are your average commodity costs for April as compared to March......
Nickel - $8.24/lb compared to $7.90/lb in March; Chromium - $4.95/lb
