Daily Nickel/Stainless Steel Briefing (8:00 AM CST is 1PM in London)
  • Three month nickel closed Friday's trading session at $4.72/lb . Indicators at 5:50 am CST today show 3 month nickel trading around $.10/lb lower. Stockpiles of nickel stored in LME approved warehouses fell on Friday and now total just over the 371,400 tonne level. Having fallen below and unable to regain the $5/lb level last week, nickel is in a nosedive as the year comes to an end. With two and a half trading days left in London, nickel is back where it was during the fall months, and has given up all the gains it made after the US election. The International Nickel Study Group reported a surplus of nickel in October, which has shocked many in the market. Traders and analysts are also deeply concerned about what Indonesia will decide about future exports of nickel ore. The average price of nickel could end lower for the month, while chrome prices will end higher.
