Nickel/Stainless Steel Briefing(8:00 AM CST is 1PM in London)
Dow Jones reports three month nickel closed Tuesday's trading session at
$7.20/lb
. Nickel sank
on Tuesday as European and American equity markets grew nervous that their
recent bets that the Fed would take immediate action did not materialize.
Nickel was the hardest hit of the LME traded base metals on Tuesday. Indicators
at 7:00 am CST today show 3 month nickel trading around $.04/lb
lower, with other
London traded base metals trading lower as well. Stockpiles of nickel stored
in LME approved warehouses rose for a sixth consecutive session and now totals
slightly just under 115,900 tonnes. Metals are lower as the Euro strengthens
in reaction to disappointing PMI numbers from China and Europe. Markets are
awaiting to see if the Fed will announce any further stimulation measures
today as their two day meeting comes to an end, and then attention will shift
to the European Central Bank meeting on Thursday.
(Dow Jones) The global steel industry is suffering from a "huge oversupply
of products" which has led steel mills worldwide to produce at below their
installed capacity levels, the chief executive of Brazilian steelmaker Usinas
Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA, or Usiminas, said Tuesday.
